"Odessa Catacombs" - are historically established, which became the now traditional name of the underground labyrinth located near Odessa and its surrounding area.
The catacombs consist of several types of underground cavities, sometimes closely related to each other. This is mainly underground quarry where building stone quarried - limestone. Quarry is approximately 95-97% of the entire length of the labyrinth of the catacombs of Odessa. Now the length of Odessa catacombs is estimated at 2.5 thousand kilometers. This figure is calculated theoretically, as less detailed information is available on 1.7 thousand kilometers of underground cavities.
Catacombs are unique "Odessa’s underground" on hundreds of miles of underground roads, which were formed during the construction period of 200 years ago, when extracted from the mines of building stone. They have always been an important place in the history of Odessa.
